Date: 07 December 2006 18:25 CAM ARC MAKES ITS MARK Cambridgeshire County Council's Archaeological Field Unit which uncovers the county's history is turning its attention to the future with a new name and new headquarters. On Wednesday, December 13, the Archaeological Field Unit will launch its new name - CAM ARC - and its new headquarters at Bar Hill. The new name and logo are designed to emphasise that the field teamform a distinctive part of Cambridgeshire Archaeology operating as a separate business and competing for archaeological exploration work against other providers. CAM ARC Manager, Dr Paul Spoerry, said: "The relaunch takes us into a new era of work in East Anglia. Refitted and specially modified new facilities at Bar Hill, including offices and processing areas for finds and environmental remains, are already making us the envy of colleagues elsewhere in the country." The new logo incorporates the design from the garnet inlaid disc brooch found during excavations at an Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Edix Hill in Barrington. The gold brooch was found in the grave of a woman aged 45 or more. It dates to the late 6th or early 7th century. CAM ARC offers a wide range of commercial archaeological services to civil engineers, and commercial and private property and land developers. It is a Registered Archaeological Organisation with the Institute of Field Archaeologists and has a proven record in the competitive market of commercial archaeology in East Anglia.> Through the link between CAM ARC and the County Council's Cambridgeshire Archaeology, both organisations will continue to provide outreach and education services to customers and communities in Cambridgeshire. The relaunch ceremony takes place at 12.00 noon, on Wednesday, October 13. An invited audience will share the celebration in the new headquarters at 15 Trafalgar Way, Bar Hill, Cambridge. County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Services, Councllor John Reynolds, who will perform the relaunch, added: "I am sure that the highly qualified and professional staff at CAM ARC will continue to provide a first class service to customers in Cambridgeshire. Their work is vital for us to discover, preserve and understand the county's archaeological history and heritage."
