Date: 22 July 2006 19:17 Now that the schools have broken up, I am sure that a number of you will be:- OFF ON HOLIDAY The first question most burglars want to know is the householder at home? Opportunist thieves commit most burglaries, so let us stop for a minute and think of some methods to deter them altogether. * Leaving a timer on in different rooms is one method but better than that is having your house visited on a daily basis. You can even repay this service when they go off. * Cancel any deliveries such as milk, newspapers etc. * Do not leave items of value on open display. * Double if not triple check all windows, door locks, garage, sheds and out buildings. * Lock up your ladders and have you thought about security lights, as they do not like to be seen. * If your leaving your car behind make sure property out of sight and the vehicle has proper security device fitted. * Spend some time marking up your property perhaps even a photograph or two of your valued property. * As stated previously stated, better still is to have someone carry out daily checks, not always at the same time, and be sure to leave your contact address with someone reliable. DURING RECENT WEEKS THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN SHED AND GARAGE BURGLARIES Have you ever stopped and thought of the value of the property that you store in out buildings? If you consider items such as gardening equipment, power tools, golf clubs fishing tackle etc. etc. this may run into hundreds if not thousands of pounds! WE WOULD ADVISE YOU TO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING SECURITY ADVICE Invest in a good quality padlock. Remember the lock is only as good as the hasp so ensure that this is also of a good quality Do not leave tools lying around as these could be used to force entry Consider purchasing a high pitch alarm Why not POST CODE your property use marking pens or on large items paint it on. Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals The above organisation is a registered charity and will be undertaking a valid house to house collection in the area of South Cambs District Council between 24th July and 26th August.Fundraisers will be visiting house holders to promote their work and they can be identified by their ID which also has a photo of them thereon. PLEASE NOTE If you are planning a car journey in this hot weather make sure you have plenty of liquids on board. Remember to look out for the elderly and less able within our communities.
