Each year, the County Council invites organisations to bid for grant funding and the council has approved 44 applications for funding in the next financial year, an increase on last year when 37 applications were approved. The successful applications come from organisations providing a range of services and support, including those: * Providing care and social activities for older people * Those working with people who have physical or learning disabilities * Organisations offering advice/support to carers, the bereaved and those suffering from long-term illness, mental health problems or a traumatic event * Community centres, community transport providers and organisations providing emergency aid * Community development projects The grants will be paid to the organisations in February. A full list of the grants is available on request. County Council Cabinet Member for Enhanced Services, Councillor Fred Yeulett, said: "The help, assistance and support of these organisations operating throughout Cambridgeshire is vital to the work of the County Council and well being of local people. "We recognise the valuable contribution community and voluntary organisations make to the work of the council across the board and we are determined to support them in every way we can, including giving them as much financial aid as possible from within the extremely tight financial constraints which still exist within local government.> "> John Reynolds
