During the first two months of a campaign to get people's views on how to tackle congestion in Cambridgeshire some 700 people have already visited 11 roadshows. But Cambridgeshire County Council transport chiefs want to make sure everyone has their say by logging onto www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/congestion or visiting one of the roadshows which will be touring the county in January and February. Since the launch of the campaign in November around 1,100 people have filled out the online survey and around 350 completed one at a roadshow. Currently more than 184,000 vehicles enter or leave Cambridge every day and this will get even worse as around 47,000 new homes are built in and around the city by 2016. The County Council wants to spend millions of pounds on improving public transport to stop the city becoming gridlocked and reduce traffic levels by around 10 per cent. No decision has been made on what the final scheme will be and residents' views are extremely important in helping shape proposals. We are pleased to see so many people have filled in the survey and attended roadshows. We would like to remind people to make sure they have a look at the current proposals and have their say so we can get this scheme right. Improving transport and reducing congestion and climate change is vital for the continuing prosperity of Cambridgeshire.
