The LDP's Huntingdon Adult Placement Scheme has been short-listed in the Efficiency and Modernisation category of the Local Government Chronicle Awards. The awards recognise best practice amongst councils around the country. The Adult Placement Scheme recruits, trains and supports Adult Placement Carers who offer long-term care, short breaks and day opportunities in their own or the service users home, for adults with a learning disability. The scheme has also been expanded to incorporate an outreach service which offers service users the opportunity to: * Develop basic living skills * Enjoy new experiences * Enjoy new friendships * Gain independence The Commission for Social Care Inspection, in a recent report on the scheme noted: "Service users are able to experience an ordinary life in the community and share the family life of the adult placement carer. The support offered is developed around the needs of each individual and careful 'matching' takes place to make sure the service user and carer are right for each other. Service users are involved with the families of the carers who support them and are able to make decisions about most aspects of their lives." The next rounds of judging will take place on December 6 and 10, with Cambridgeshire LDP staff attending to give a presentation on the Adult Placement Scheme. LGC Editor Karen Day, said: "The judges have certainly been impressed by the high standard of entries this year." The Cambridgeshire Learning Disability Partnership brings together specialist health and social care services for people with a learning disability. It is responsible for commissioning services on behalf of Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council. John Reynolds -- No virus found in this incoming message.
