Date: 22 June 2007 14:43 YOUR LIBRARY IS NOW JUST A TEXT AWAY Mobile phone technology means that people can obtain information about their local Library at the touch of a button - thanks to a new service which has been introduced by Cambridgeshire County Council's Libraries, Archives and Information Service.. By texting 077814 81111 followed by the name of the relevant Library, people can check opening hours and ask questions on any aspect of their local Library or library and information services throughout Cambridgeshire. County Council Enquiry Services Manager Jon Anderson, said: "Given that text messaging is such a popular means of requesting and receiving information, it makes sense to enable our customers to contact us this way. We have been testing the system amongst our own staff and they have been impressed and we expect our customers will feel the same." The texts will be charges at the usual network provider rate and responses will be sent as soon as possible. The service will be available between 9.00-5.00 pm, Monday to Saturday. "This new text message service is another example of the County Council's commitment to using the benefits of communications technology to provide a 21st century Library and Information Service to our customers. Our Libraries already give the public free access to e-mail and internet services and this is a further boost to what we are able to provide." John Reynolds
