CALL CAMBRIDGESHIRE CRIMESTOPPERS! Crimestoppers, the charity helping to solve crime, is teaming up with all police forces in the eastern region to support their local work against distraction burglary, often referred to as Bogus Calling. This is a particularly vindictive crime, where trick or distraction is used to gain access to premises to commit burglary. It is primarily targeted at vulnerable older people, causing deep distress and often leaving permanent trauma for the victim. The region-wide radio advertisement, "If you know a bogus caller", will highlight that phoning Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 allows any individual to pass on information about those committing such atrocious offences. Nothing is noted about the caller and calls are not recorded or traced. Information is passed to the police to develop enquiries. "Crimestoppers is bringing the opportunity for people to do the most valuable thing they can and give information that will help stop the offenders in their tracks. "It is really important that we get this message across the region simultaneously as the perpetrators may not live where the crimes take place. "Any individual can call Crimestoppers without fear, if information leads to arrest and charge cash rewards can be paid still without revealing identity." Locally, Cambridgeshire police and partner agencies will distribute coasters to banks in the county to remind counter staff that they can contact Trading Standards or the police if they have any concerns about a transaction. If agencies are alerted quickly, rogue traders can be caught in the act and the transaction stopped. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Neighbourhood Policing Panels Tuesday 22nd May Swavesey Panel Swavesey Primary School 1900hrs doors open. 1930 Start Meeting.
